voyager modem 105 same settings as netgear dg834g (aol)

Hi there,

I posted earlier about trouble connecting to aol through netgear router. As I can connect through voyager 105 I find it a bit confussing as to why router doesn't work. aol live help are sending me another netgear as they think this one may be faulty, but all lights on router are lit ok (power dsl) user name and password entered ok as well, so on past experiences I find that usually its another problem not router, but we'll see.

Does the modem inside the router basically work the same as the voyager 105 modem settings , or does it use a different protocol to connect to internet. As I may have stated earlier DUN connection to aol stopped working after bt speed upgrade, so not sure if that has a bearing on it.

Joe

this router thing is drivign me crazy trying to setup. As said aol are sending another. But since voyager can connect ok to aol strange hwo router can't.. All i can think of is some setting maybe not right at bt side, as dun stopped working after speed increase. Im probably within the 10 day trial period before bt set the final speed for my line.

Yep I have only 7 letters in password, so I'm sure that I have entered all correctly +username@aol.com in that form. I did put a ethernet card in my computer from pc world but I think that is working ok. Just got a funny feeling that DUN thing has something to do with it (stopped working) +speed upgrade + went down to aol silver.
Im about to give up on it, at least I can get on net with voyager modem

I did notice a voyager router at argos, so maybe if I cant get netgear to work I'll have a try with it. Probably comes under 16 day moneyback ...so won't loose anything if it doesn't work

From the router log, it is clear that your router is connected to ADSL, and working, it's just not authenticating to aol and being allocated an ip address.. which presuming you are using the same phone lead, in the same filter, suggests an id or password problem.

I doubt it is anything to do with your PC.

if you are sure the username and password (are they lowercase?) are correct, then the only other thing I can think of is to lower the mtu to 1400 on the router/wan setup screen.

you have got ip address and dns server addresses set to get dynamically, and this internet connection requires a login set in the router, basic connection screen?
