I have recently purchased and untreated oak table. What is the best oil to use to protect the table from spillages etc?
Some friends have recommended parafin oil and others have said danish oil?
Thanks

you could use danish or teak oil , or you could use a wax polish - which is what i would personally go for , if you do go for the oil option be extremely careful of any cloth etc you use to apply it , it can spontaneously combust , either soak them in water or lay them outside to dry0

Danish oil everytime

Assumig you are not 8 years old, no need to worry about the fire risk mentioned above, just treat the cloth like any other flammable............with common sense... yawn.0 -
Don't use wax, you will get water marks, cup rings .I would use Teak oil, Danish oil or you could try Liberon Finishing Oil as I believe they changed the formula in recent years and you can use it around water....
With most oils the more coats you treat the table with the deeper the shine. You will probably find the first 2 coats will soak in and look a bit patchy, build them up and you will get a good finish..0 -
thanks for the help0
