Any Ideas

Ok Firstly thank you for reading and any helpful suggestions will be gratefully read.

I put a deposit down on a scooter of £100 that is pre reg'd and 3 years old but no miles on it total cost £750 under the agreement the dealer was going to keep it until I had paid it all off. So all he did was put a sold sticker on it. next weekend the husbands car blow up and we have to take out finance to get a new one. So now really going to struggle to pay off the scooter if at all. Went to tell the dealer 17 days later in the hope of getting the deposit back or even most of it back. He has said he has the right to refuse but has said he will keep the deposit for anything else I want! If I havent got a bike what else would I want to buy form a bike dealer!?. Do I have any rights to ask for my money back as he has not done anything with the bike or laid out anything towards it and has put it back on sale?

Please any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Smotyn

So he hasn't had it on sale for 17 days, I think he could quite fairly argue that by holding it for you via the deposit that just under £6 a day costs is fair cost of his losses because he could have sold it in that time....if it had been a couple of days you would have a stronger arguement

You have every right to ask for your money back but I doubt if you'll receive it unless the guy is feeling particularly generous. That's the whole point of asking for a deposit in the first place. If deposits were routinely returned on asking then they'd serve no purpose. I once did get a deposit back, about a grand as I recall, because my car was nicked the week after, but I was lucky the salesman was understanding.
