I heard from a relative that someone has found a way of using the internet on their home computer by using their mobile as a dongle.
Is this true and does anyone know how I can do this. I have an Apple iPhone 3GS
Any help would be appreciated as I get free internet on my phone so its more cost effective to do it this way

you cna use it as a modem if it supports that capability but you wont get your free internet as that is for mobile pages only and if you are on contract you will find they charge you about 2.50 per mb (about the same for pay as you go) so you could end up with a huge bill
i know this as i worked for orange and a guy used his phone as a modem and ran up an 87,000 pounds bill (he thought it would be free as he had unlimted internet on his phone )Replies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. bets thing to do is contact your network provider and see if they can do anything to help youReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. It is called tethering, and is in the settings menus of your iPhone 3GS.
It is perfectly normal and has been for years - the person who 'found a way' of doing it isn't as clever as you might give them credit for!0 -
I've been doing that for maybe ten years. It can certainly be fairly expensive, though not prohibitive unless you are abroad, you need to check your provider's data charges. Plus it won't be anywhere near as fast as the current 'broadband dongles'.0

I've done it quite often on my Vodafone phone, and never had a bill outside my fiver a month. However, I used it sparingly - checking emails, checking the news, etc. Don't even think about using it to watch iplayer, download mp3's, or even look at lots of photo albums.0

Jailbreak it and you have plenty of options for tethering, you can even turn the iPhone into a wi-fi access point. Cost depends on the contract with your SIM card.0 -
I use my Nokia E71 on my three network as a modem whilst out and about and also at home if my home line is down all for my £5 a month internet add on. Im told they dont like it but not sure how they know, my data usage only ever says ' you have not used any data outside of your allowance'
I have recently added a programme from Joikuspot that turns my phone into a wifi access point which is brilliant.WHOOOOSHHHHHHHHH……..
Blimey what was that ?
That was your life mate
Oh I wasn’t quite ready can I have another go ?
Sorry mate only one per person.0 -
I am on Vodafone and have a 500MB allowance per month. This is for surfing on the phone or using the phone as a modem.
Most I have used in month was 75MB. That was mainly checking mail, etc.0
