what do i do with them, straight in the ground with said bog roll over it? wont they get wet an go mushy when watered?

also im curious about the empty plastic bottles, do these go over seeds and create mini greenhouses?

If you can't find enough cardboard tubes you can have a go at making something similar yourself, Get a narrow bottle or can and roll newspaper around it several times then scrunch up the base to make a mini-pot, once potted out it will rot away.

Yes the plastic bottles are great mini greenhouses - also the plastic that Easter Eggs are boxed up in are also good but it varies from egg to egg!

A question on the loo rolls. I tried planting one pea in each tube last year, watered them when first planted, but found after a couple of days that they had a little mould on around the bottom on the outside of the tube. I realise watering too much would cause this, but if I did this again, would you suggest watering from the top of the tube or around the bottom of the tube, would it make a difference. Would they need much watering after the first water to keep moist enough to start growing. Sometimes the compost looks really dry on the top, is it likely that it's damp enough further down so doesn't need watering? Sorry for the 20 questions, but I haven't had any success with the toilet rolls.

There is often a bit of mould when using toilet roll inners but it doesnt seem to hurt the plants.

Usually I group the inners together on a drip tray and put a couple of circles of masking tape round them to keep them upright.

Then I water with a watering can so that all parts get moist and the inners then wick up water from the tray. If the inners feel dry then water again.

For the first time this year I've tried growing parsnips and am growing them in inners with the top covered by clingfilm. They are just beginning to germinate.
