FTB - solicitors fees

How much do these average for a FTB? My boyfriend and i rang around all companies in our area (Newark,Nottinghamshire) and quotes varied from the cheapest being £742 to the highest being £916.

My boyfriends parents were shocked and couldn't understand why it was so must when we don't have a place to sell. They told they paid less and that was them selling a house for £116 and buying one for £168.

Would we be paying more because we have a 100% mortgage for £82?

What is the quote actually including?

The only real variable in the solicitor fees is the actual fee they charge themselves. The rest will be for such things as searches, land registry fees, leasehold admin fee (if your property is leasehold) etc etc.

Post a breakdown and we can see if it is reasonable.

  • Sadly the 'high' quotes i destroyed in a shredding machine, no way was i paying £916.

I do remember though that the higher ones had the fee for the service at £500 plus VAT.

I ended up going with a company that charged £364 including VAT

  • Hi, I live in Leeds & FTB (just completed last week) I paid a set fee of £829 for everything solicitor needed to do.

My partners parents said the same that its expensive as we were only buying!

    Hope this helps
