Gas Safety Certificate/Offer of Indemnity Certificate

Were currently selling a house which had a new central heating system 18 months ago. Our solicitors asked us to provide a 'Gas Safety Certificate'. I found all the documentation given to us, including a Gas Installation Checklist, which had some figures about the supply, details of work and checks, siganture and CORGI number. Solicitor asked me to take it down to office. Just been down and she got her trained monkey to try and deal with it who basically told me it was not a GSC, even though she didnt have a clue what it was.
Just looked on a website that said its not always an actual GSC, so I just want to check my facts before I recontact the plumber. Is this a legal requirement? I am sure the purchasers would be happy with this existing document if they saw it.
PS. Robbing Solcitor helpfully offered to get me an indemnity certificate for another £50.
End of rant

GAs safety certificates are for rental properties to show that appliances are safe, a bit like an MOT for boilers. Any installation should be certified by a registered gas installer or by the local council building control. That is what you should be providing. If you can't find it, just phone up the registered plumber that installed the boiler and ask for it. it sounds like you've supplied it, in which case the solicitor needs an education in these things.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
