Too much Loft Insulation?

Is it possible to have too much loft insulation?

On Saturday when we had that mini heat wave my house was still pretty cold. I had to go up into the loft however and it was like a sauna up there.

Is it possible I have so much loft insulation that the heat that builds up on the roof during the day isnt transfering through the 400mm of loft insulation I have!

Therefore making the house quite cold!

Isn't that what you want? A cool house in the summer? I know I do - I'm in the same boat and have three layers of insulation up there.

If it could transfer one way, it could transfer the other way thus losing all the heat you've paid for! Seems OK to me.

But the result is our house requires heating all year round....

Despite it being roasting outside on Sunday afternoon, our house was so cold we needed to put the heating on!!

Take the insulation out for a year and see if your heating bills diminish? I don't think so.
For most of the year it will be cooler outside your house than inside, therefore the insulation works in your favour most of the time.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
