Reconnection Fee? Money Spin?

We moved into our flat a few months ago and have only recently decided we'd like to get the internet. The flat has a couple of phone plugs about the place but no phone to check the dial tone.

Now I'm not sure if any previous tenent had a phone line set up but what I was wondering is do I have to pay this reconnection fee if they did? Seems a bit crazy that whenever someone moves out of a flat and someone else moves in there needs to be a reconnection fee paid?

Can anyone explain this process to me?

Thank you

I just rang BT and they have said there is a bt line there and there will be no charge. I want to set up the Primus Home Saver Line for 8.99 per month and the talktalk deal for 6.99 a month.

Will Primus be able to set up the line rental or do i have to go through BT?

  • if you ring them they check the line for you and tell you if there will be a fee (they do it while you are on the phone).

Primus should be able to do it but a lot of the 'alternative' line providers insist on the line being active before they will take it over.

If so, you'd have to get BT to do that and that would mean you'd be tied to BT for line rental for 12 months.

Actually, if i do set up the landline will i be eligible for the Unlimited Weekend Calling Plan for 11.54 a month or would i be charged more? This would than work out just a weeny bit more than the talktalk line rental charge.

Yes, The (free) Unlimited Weekend Calling Plan is standard and comes with the line rental.

Line rental is £11.54/month if you pay by Direct Debit (this avoiding the £1.50/month charge for paying by 'any method other than Direct Debit') and opt for paper-free billing (earning £1.25/month discount).
