Struggling with debt? Ask a debt advisor a question

Hi
Everything's in place for our DMP to start in May. We've got a couple of questions:
1 We had a letter from CCCS saying Lloyds have stated that our loan account is in credit - it isn't - shall we just wait for them to find this out? We haven't had any correspondence from them at all. We rang and said we were starting a DMP and would send a token payment but were told our details weren't showing a missed payment/cancelled dd or anything??
2 We have a mortgage - is our property at risk in any way at all?
Thanks in anticipation.Debt = HUGE! LBM March 2010:idea:DMP starting May 2010:jWe are now proud to be dealing with our debt!!0 -
Help, not been on one of these sites before, so not sure if I'm doing it right. I need help, unbeknown to me my husband has run up HUGE credit card debt (on the family etc). We froze the accounts quite a while ago when it became too big a problem and he now pays about £30 a month to each, although with normal day to day living and expenses sometimes even these don't get paid. Is there anything we can do. Please help0

Two final questions for when you've answered all the other more important questions!
1. If I end up with a surplus of money when on the DMP can you make one off payments to CCCS to help pay the debt off quicker? Say I find at the end of the year I have £500 spare cash, can I send that to CCCS to be distributed evenly to my creditors?
2. I've contacted Lloyds TSB who have told me to contact Payplan, I'm assuming that Lloyds will be just as happy to receive a DMP from CCCS or is Payplan their preferred method? I much prefer to go with CCCS.0 -
I have a a questions which I really could do with your help.
I have a £2,196 debt with the Halifax. I keep getting letters from different companies... how do I know which one I should be paying?
Hello,
Thank you for your email.
You could contact Halifax, some companies buy the debt and some collect on behalf of the original creditor. Halifax should be able to point you in the right direction. Debts can sometimes be passed to a number of different companies.
If the debt has been bought by another company then you should have received a notice of assignment, this shows who the new owner of the debt is.

Hello,
Your debt would be still included in your dmp as all debts would need to be included to make it fair. I have attached a link to the CCCS website for you to have a read through the collection process as this will explain what the creditors can and can’t do.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

It’s difficult to give you detailed advice on your options without knowing a bit more about your financial situation. So we can help you, I think you would benefit from using our online debt advice facility called Debt Remedy. Debt Remedy will assist you in completing a full financial statement and you will be provided with tailored advice on the best way to deal with your debts. It should take you about 20 minutes to complete and it’s completely free and impartial. To get advice straight away, click here to be taken directly to Debt Remedy.
If you would prefer to talk to a debt counsellor about your situation, you can book a telephone based appointment by calling our helpline free on 0800 138 1111. Lines are open Monday to Friday 08:00-20:00. It would be helpful that when you call you have details ready regarding your income, expenditure and creditors, as this can help speed up the referral process. If you have this information ready it may be possible to refer you directly to a counsellor if one is available, otherwise we will arrange a time that is convenient for you to be called back for an appointment.

It’s up to you what organisation you approach, the main thing is that you go to an organisation that does not charge as you money is better going towards your debts not to another company.

I feel very strange posting on a site about my problems, but do need some advice.
I am 62 years old, my sole income is from a private pension, and my state pension. The private pension is paid into my current account monthly and my state pension paid in to the same account weekly on Mondays.
I have an agreed overdraft limit of £3,000 with my bank. For the last couple of months when I checked at the cash machine, I was into my overdraft to the tune of £2, 700, it came down when my pensions went in - naturally, but then all of my standing orders/direct debits start coming off, and I'm back to square one. I have used up all of my savings to get me to where I am right now, sometimes these went to reducing my overdraft.
Funds have now run out of my savings, and I fear an emergency of any kind cropping up. I'm not spending other than on food, I've turned off my heating, there is little else I can reduce to save money.
My problem is that I fear the phone ringing, or opening the mail in the morning or even going to the door to see if I have any mail. In March my bank did not pay my monthly direct debit to one of my credit cards due insufficient funds remaining - this was because I was near my £3,000 OD limit. I'm worried sick, a new Direct Debit has been set up, and I have paid manually until this happens which will be this month.
I cannot go on living this way, I'm alone and scared and don't know what to do. If I was only paying my mortgage, council tax, gas, electricity, tv licence and insurance for the house etc. the normal things. My pensions would be enough, but I fear my problems are that I'm still paying minimum payments on my credit cards - and a bank loan which finishes at the end of 2011 - this alone is £332 a month. But if I only paid my essentials I would be ok living on my pensions.
Can someone please tell me how to proceed. I find it very difficult to pick the phone up and even admit to having a problem, let alone looking at the problems on paper - it's just how I am. I have buried my head in the sands for long enough, but I'm so very badly depressed right now, and I don't know where to turn.
Thank you

Hi I have just been divorced, I have no house, I rent, No car and no savings. I have over the last year managed to get myself into About £18k worth of debt, 3 credit cards, 1 loan and store cards.
I am in full time employment but this barely covers my rent and bills let alone debt payments.
Do you have any advice for me? I am considering bankruptcy!!!0 -

I know it feels strange posting your problems on a website but please don't worry about it. Most of the people on this forum are only too pleased to offer advice and support, (though you do very occassionally get an idiot just out to cause trouble) and a lot have been through/are going through the same thing themselves, including me.
I have sent you a private message. Take care x0
