Hi ljcraigboy
Thank you for your message.
I would not be able to say whether you would get your money back from ‘Money Worries’.
You could put in a complaint to the Financial Ombudsman or you could contact ‘Consumer Direct’. I have attached a link for you:-
http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/
All their help and advice is free.
In order for us to give you further advice regarding whether a DMP would be your best option, you would need to make an appointment to speak to one of our debt counsellors about your situation.
The free helpline is 0800 138 1111.
Alternatively you can visit our online debt advice facility called Debt Remedy. Debt Remedy would assist you in completing a financial statement and you would be provided with tailored advice on the best way to deal with your situation. This link will take you directly to Debt Remedy www.cccs.co.uk/ref/drcu

Hi kingston 2730
Thank you for your message
It can be very frustrating when the creditors will not stop the interest and charges on any debts you have with them.
A debt management plan is not a legally binding agreement.
We do have excellent relationships with creditors and we do request that they stop any further interest being added and charges being made.
However, your creditors are not obliged to freeze the interest on the debts you have.
It is important that you do not fall behind on any priority bills by trying to keep up payments on credit card or loan debts, so trying to shuffle money around to maintain minimum payments would not be a good option in the long run if you do not have enough surplus in your budget to do this.
Your credit file will already be affected if you are making reduced payments.
If you are struggling to meet the repayments on your DMP, then I would recommend that you call for an appointment to review your situation.
The counsellor would review your circumstances and then recommend the best option.
Regards

Can you tell me if the budgets are worked out the same for both or is an IVA stricter? Also, can you tell me if you take out an IVA and then mortgage payments go up, is it possible to take this into account? From what I've been reading I think perhaps an IVA might be more suitable for us. The only problem might be that we are on a tracker mortgage which is on a REALLY low rate at the minute and it will go up as the economy picks up. I really appreciate your input.
Sorry forgot to ask, is it possible to start out on a DMP and if things aren't going well switch to an IVA?0 -
Hi there, this is my first post. Please help.
we are living day to day and topping up our credit cards and overdrafts, despite already owing in excess of 60,000. We are a married couple with a young family and both work extremely hard, we bring in around 2800 a month and pay out atleast 1500 on Loans, credit cards , store cards etc, which doesn't include the mortgage and other basic outgoings. ie council tax, living expences etc.... We have tried for a secured Loan, but due to house prices we will not even get half the amount which will not make us any better off in the long run... Really don't know what to do , really don't want to sell or lose the family home, then again most of our neighbours have had their houses on the market for over a year at rock bottom prices. The best way forward and who you recommend will be appreciated. Thanks inadvance...0 -
Good Morning,
I've been a bit silly with my debt and i really need some advice on what to do first. I owe i little over £15k to 4 different creditors. I am not in contact with any of them after having a nervous breakdown and moving house. Its probably been 2 years since i've been in contact with them. Is it best to contact my creditors offering monthly payments before looking to a management plan? I have been offered a management scheme with debtfreedirect but i am a little unsure as they require £300 before it starts and £35 a month, is this usual?

Morning All,
I’m a first poster on the forums, although I do come on the website religiously! Il try and cover all the bases so you know the situation I have.
First off, I'm a complete and utter newbie in terms of debt and would like to point out its not me that is actually in debt its my girlfriend. She has stupidly taken out 2 yes, thats 2, pay day loans! These 2 payday loans have crept up and she now owes £950. She has a credit card (I think its Barclays) which she owes around £300. She cannot get another credit card. Also, she was just about to go with a debt management company which, I have told her not to after reading one of the guides on the website.
The main worry I have is the payday loans. I have told her I will try and get a credit card and pay them for her if it is possible. What I want to know is, is it possible and which offer do I look for? By that I mean is it the 0% interest on balance transfers? (see I told you I'm a newbie!)
I’m presuming I will be accepted for the credit card straight away as I have had absolutely no debt (I’m 23 next month) in the past, car is paid for, my car insurance is paid for (£1100 is just scandalous). I think I handle money quite well and have always been able to save very well, I do still live at home with my parents which helps, but I just bought my car for £5000 so in all my savings have virtually gone (car and insurance = £6100).
Basically what I'm asking is:
1) Can I pay someone elses debt by credit card (she will pay me £200 at least per month by the way)
2) If possible, do I look for a credit card with 0% balance transfer such as EGG with 0% balance up to August next year?
3) I do have some savings left but am reluctant to part with them over this, shall I bite the bullet and do it, rather then the credit card route?
Sorry for the long post but as I said, saving and money handling I’m good at..Debt I have no clue what so ever!0 -
bumblebee41 wrote: »Hi, I'm in the process of setting up a DMP with CCCS but I'm really scared that HSBC are not going to like it and are going to harrass me, particularly as I owe the majority of my debt to them (£10,000 loan, £700 overdraft, and £1500 credit card). At first I was really enthusiastic about it as I feel they are legalised loan sharks and have forced me into this situation. They claim they are responsible lenders yet they continually let me extend my loan (on average yearly over last 6 years) and they must have realised I could not afford to pay the whole loan off without extending again. I even offered last year to pay off £5000 of my loan last year but they said that I couldn't do this. HSBC are also my bank (tho not for long as I have set up a basic bank account with a bank I don't owe money to. I am constantly borrowing just to cover my living expenses and have started claims to get back PPI and unfair banking charges (again from HSBC). I'm really worried they are going to get nasty, I already suffer from depression and wouldn't be able to cope with harrassment on top of my debts, would you be able to advise me on how sympathetic HSBC have been previously to customers who have taken out DMP's?
Thankyou.
Thank you for your message
Your creditors are not allowed to harass you.
I have attached some information from the OFT guidelines which gives examples of unfair practices. Section 2.6 (a-j)
http://www.oft.gov.uk/shared_oft/business_leaflets/consumer_credit/oft664.pd
If you feel that you are being harassed, then you can report them.
You can contact us if you have any problems whilst you are on your DMP.
By doing a DMP, you are taking control of your debt situation.
HSBC will receive a pro rata payment which will be a fair share of any surplus you have left after paying all your priority bills.
If you have any problems at all, please do contact our client support team.

My husband has a DMP and has today had a statement from Marbles card which is one of his creditors, although they have reduced his interest rate still when he makes a payment only 50.00 is going off the balance and the rest is in interest he has had his DMP for about 1 year does anyone no if marbles would transfer his account to DCA because then i don;t think the interest would be so high I know this wouldn't help his credit score but that's completely shot anyway
Hi 3431anna
Thank you for your message.
It would depend.
Has your husband had a review of his budget recently? If it has not been reviewed since he started it a year ago, it may help to send out an update of his income and expenditure together with a request to consider stopping the interest and charges again.
It is always a creditor’s decision whether they are prepared to stop interest and charges, but if the request is supported by a reasonable budget, then they may choose to stop the charges and interest.
Often it is collection agencies that stop interest and charges so it can be beneficial if a debt is transferred. Unfortunately, I am not able to say whether Marbles would transfer to a collection agency. If the payment you are making is paying off the debt in a reasonable time, they may be happy to continue collecting it.
If your DMP is with CCCS, then your husband can contact our client support team for further advice.
If he is with another DMP company, then he needs to contact them.
Regards
