I have unopened mail and I cannot speak to my boyfriend or my parents as I fear the former would end things and the latter would be very disappointed. I had problems with money when I was younger but I sorted it out and was fine until 2008. It is four days after pay day and I have £40 in the bank and will soon have no way to get to work even. I know this is totally my fault, I have been stupid but I have realised that I need help. My thoughts are getting darker and darker and I need to somehow work myself out of this whole. I am currently writing a budget and I am going to sit down and open all my mail, I estimate I owe around £5000 in credit cards and short term loans. I have to get this sorted so that I can try and get on with life. My partner wants us to buy a house together (he curently owns his own) and I know it is not going to be an option, I'm just sat waiting for the day I have to tell him. I know things could be worse, I have a job and if I can somehow get through this month (I'm not sure how I am going to figure that out) then I want to be paying as much as I can off whilst still maintaining my outgoings.
I would just really like some advice on who to turn to, what options I have.
Hi HazieCoogan,
I can see that you’ve already had some great advice from Fatbelly and jamesd.
I hope they helped to put your mind at ease. Like Fatbelly mentioned, it’s best that you get in touch with us if you haven’t already so that we can go through your options in more detail.
If there’s any further advice that you need, please get in touch – you’ve already done the hardest part of facing up to the problem.
Kind regards,

Dear CCCS
Can you please help me - I have a mortgage currenty owing 106K paying 730 per month which is a struggle - I am currently on a DMP owung 20K on credit cards/loans etc - My fixed rate is coming to and end at the end of October and I need advice on what to do as I have heard that as you are on a DMP nobody will offer you a good deal please can anyone advise on what and where to go and get advice? I am currently with the Halifax and they are now help whatsoever thanks for the advice
Hi win123 and thanks for your post.
It’s likely that your credit rating has been affected by your DMP so you’re right that it may be difficult to access a good deal for your mortgage.
As you’re struggling and you’re already a DMP client, I’d recommend that you give us a call so that we can look at your situation in a bit more detail and look at the options that are available to you. If you’d prefer, you can send me your client reference number in a private message and I can get someone to contact you.
Kind regards,

What can I do about not being able to make the minimum payment to MBNA? They now want £1500 to clear arrears which I dont have. I've told them I cant make the minimum payment now let alone clear arrears but the not so nice gentlemen on the phone could only be as helpful as to keep asking me for the arrears. I ended up hanging up on him. Sigh...

Hi,
Through a combination of low pay, an abortive attempt at a career change and living beyond my means throughout my 20s, I've amassed around £20k in credit card and professional studies loan debt (a figure close to my annual salary). Starting to find it a stretch paying even the minimum amount.
I think a DMP would be too severe - ideally I'd like a consolidation loan, I think. If I could borrow £20k and pay back around £300 per month that'd be a huge help to me. Is it likely I'd find such a loan? (Had a couple of late credit card payments but never missed one outright). Any advice would be very gratefully received. Thank you.0 -
Hi there, a few years a go I managed to get help from the CAB to reduce my debts to £1 a month. This has been going really well until recently and I am hoping that someone can help me.
I owe £450 to Evans (Lewis Group) and have been happily paying the £1 a month by standing order and have never missed a payment. A couple of months a go, they wrote to me saying that they are taking me to court as I missed a payment. I looked through all of my bank statements and was pleased to find that I have never missed a payment. I phoned them and they told me to send my statements to them so that they could see- which I did.
Anyway I have just received another letter from them saying that they are taking me to court etc etc. What do I do? I have never missed a payment and they have been adding extra charges to my bill. I feel so scared by all of this as nobody is listening to me. Please help x0 -

I would give the CAB a call, it could be me but I wouldn't want to send all my bank statements as this shows all your incomings and outgoings and they could use these to say you can pay more than £1 per month.
Just rewrite to them with all the dates paid, it sounds like there looking for more money.
A friend of mine had a similar with a door loan company they pay £5 per month - they were taken to court, the court just chucked it out and said it should never be brought and put all the charges to the company.
Def give CAB a call as they where the ones to arrange the repayment for you. xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
I am in need of urgent financial assistance. I have just discovered we have 5 cards totaling 30000 worth of debt (approx). We do not own a home and need help sorting it. Minimum monthly payments are now being made after a default of 5 months. Direct debits were being refused due to lack of funds and bank charges added into it. How do we go about fixing this? Any assistance is gratefully received0

Hi there and thanks for your post.
You can’t pay them money that you don’t have and although your creditors may be trying to pressurise you into paying more, it’s best to offer what you can afford. You can read more about what they can and cannot do in this blogpost: http://moneyaware.co.uk/creditoraction.
We’d need to look at your situation in a bit more detail to advise you on your options but in the meantime you can write to your creditors, making them aware of your situation and offer a payment of whatever you can afford. You can back this up with a copy of your budget as proof that you can’t make the minimum payments and clear the arrears.
If you’d like some more detailed advice you can visit our online debt advice service Debt Remedy (http://www.cccs.co.uk/ref/drcu) or call our Helpline on 0800 138 1111 (free including from mobiles). We’re open Monday to Friday 8am - 8pm and Saturdays 9am – 3pm.
I hope this helps.

Hello, and welcome to the forum
We don’t usually recommend consolidating existing debts if you’re already struggling because it can sometimes make the situation worse in the long term. Here’s some more information on why we say this: http://moneyaware.co.uk/2011/04/to-debt-consolidate-or-not-to-debt-consolidate/.
Also, you might find it difficult to get approved for a loan, particularly if you’ve made late payments in the past.
If you’d like us to look at your situation in a bit more detail to see what your options are you can visit our online debt advice service Debt Remedy (http://www.cccs.co.uk/ref/drcu) or call our Helpline on 0800 138 1111 (free including from mobiles). We’re open Monday to Friday 8am - 8pm and Saturdays 9am – 3pm.
I hope this helps.
