Hi arthurdaley and thanks for your post.

The CCJ will be registered once you receive the letter titled ‘Judgement for Claimant’ and this will be recorded on your credit file for 6 years. If you haven’t already received this it’s important that you contact them as soon as possible to make an arrangement to pay. You’re usually given 16 days to complete the court forms.

    I hope this helps.

    Kind regards,
    Pavan

Thanks for your reply Pavan, i was under the understanding if i settled this in the first 14/28 days, this would not stay on my credit file for 6 years but a lot less,

this is not the case then?

If paid within one month of the judgement the ccj is not registered and so does not appear on your file.

  • I've realised I really need help. I have been burying my head in the sand and living on payday loans. I have unopened mail and I cannot speak to my boyfriend or my parents as I fear the former would end things and the latter would be very disappointed. I had problems with money when I was younger but I sorted it out and was fine until 2008. It is four days after pay day and I have £40 in the bank and will soon have no way to get to work even. I know this is totally my fault, I have been stupid but I have realised that I need help. My thoughts are getting darker and darker and I need to somehow work myself out of this whole. I am currently writing a budget and I am going to sit down and open all my mail, I estimate I owe around £5000 in credit cards and short term loans. I have to get this sorted so that I can try and get on with life. My partner wants us to buy a house together (he curently owns his own) and I know it is not going to be an option, I'm just sat waiting for the day I have to tell him. I know things could be worse, I have a job and if I can somehow get through this month (I'm not sure how I am going to figure that out) then I want to be paying as much as I can off whilst still maintaining my outgoings.
I would just really like some advice on who to turn to, what options I have.

Hi. I noticed your post earlier and meant to reply but got sidetracked. CCCS look after this thread and they are definitely people you should speak to. However, it's a bank holiday weekend so they won't be back till Tuesday. In the meantime you could try their Debt Remedy. This will give you a reference number which you quote when you phone so that they can see what you have entered.

I won't go into details about the possible strategies available to you. That's for you to discuss with them. But just be reassured that there is always a way forward. It's just a case of finding the best one. And 5k is not a disaster.

It is often difficult to discuss this with family. What we recommend is approaching it by saying 'this is the problem I've got and this is what I'm doing about it' rather than just 'this is the problem'.

Thank you for your reply. The amount isn't unmanageable I am certain of that, I need to sit down and face it firstly so I know where I am at with it. I have been doing some reading up and saw that by seeking help I get 30 days grace period which would alleviate some of the pressure I feel right now. I just need to figure out how I get to the 21st September and then I can start working towards being debt free.

At the moment I see no way of telling my parents or partner, my parents have been through it with me before and I think it would cause a big rift. As for my partner, I feel like he will feel he has been lied to, but it's a big thing to admit when he has a job that earns him a lot and he is very careful with money. I have been up to date but a car problem and a payday loan got me in a stupid cycle, one where I was definitely doing the wrong thing by acting like all was ok, so my boyfriend saw no issue saying let's do this, let's do that...when I just constantly worry about money. I just want to get something in place and stick to it. This month's issue if I can overcome it and somehow find the money for petrol and food (without a payday loan!!) will leave me in a much better place next payday and then I can try and pay as much as I can.

I am writing down my outgoings as we speak. I will contact CCCS on Tuesday and try to find some light at the end of the tunnel.

A person who is committed to you is also going to be committed to helping to solve your problems. You and he should discuss this. Yes, he'll be disappointed but that is not the same as not caring enough for you to help to sort out your future together.

Payday lenders now typically are willing to set up repayment plans. But that is not your best solution. Your best solution long term is a better partnership with your partner, where you are willing to trust him with the bad news as well as the good and where he can support you, just as you support him. The debt is unfortunate. The opportunity to use it to help to improve your trust in your partner isn't. It's one of the good things that can come from this unfortunate situation.

Thank you for your kind words. It really has made me feel a bit better about telling him.
