i am after some advise please, my sister has been off work for 22 weeks with depression and there is no sign that she will return to her current job, she owe's about £14500, on a loan and a credit card both to nationwide, she ahs been unable while off to afford the repayments and has always been intouch with the bank to explain what was going on, i tried to sort everything out and completed all the forms by national debt advice, to be informed by the bank they don't deal with them, and to use cccs, which i have done, we completed a monthly budget form and sent it to the banks, and then my brother offered to lend her £5000 to see if they would accept a lesser amount, she offered £4500 to the loan, and £500 to the credit card, the credit card company turn it down, but the loan company hasn't said yes or no yet, which until they do she can't do anything, because if the loan accept then she can inform the credit card compnay that they have and see if they would reconsider again, the problem is that she is getting inundated with phone call's from them and it is making her even more stressed out, and even more depressed, she is trying to sort things out with the bank but getting know where.0

Hi, I have a quick question.......
I have a Barclays credit card 0% which I pay regularly, but need another as had to a leak and had to replace a whole bedroom of stuff due to the damage. I am taking my council to court but in the meantime had to put everything on my old credit card £1800.00
I want to transfer this debt to a 0% card and barclays have the best deal, can I have 2 0% cards with them or will automatically be refused as I already have 1 with them?
I don't want to risk applying and having my credit score affected if they refuse as this may jepodise getting the next best card available.
Do I apply to Barclays or automatically go for the next best deal with a different bank (Halifax)
Thanks for reading this, any advice would be appreciated

Hi
Northern Rock have officially accepted our settlement figure for an old loan (£5800 on an £18,000 balance) by phone. My wife asked them to send us confirmation by letter before we pay it, but they said they can't do that. We have to send the money first.
They also said that this would mean we would be clear from debt for northern rock and wouldn't persue any more money from us but could not remove from credit report like we asked.
Now Idon't quite know what they mean by that. Should they mark it as settled or satisfied or something else.
Personally I think if they accept a settlement figure then it is settled surely?
Advice would be appreciated.0 -
Hi Pavan or Mat,
I was hoping you might be able to help.
After a messy relationship, I was left with debts. I changed address and ignored everything. Some companies I owed money to found me and started sending letters, some couldn't find me. I want to be debt free to be able to buy a house one day. I want to improve my credit rating and can't even open a bank account at the moment. The one I have is a joint account with that guy but I can't get rid off his name as apparently he needs to sign.
I got a report from Equifax and here is what I found out I have against me:
Defaulted on 23.12.2005 for £2321.00 but it says balance is £2721.00
Defaulted on 10.02.2006 for £3958.00 but it says balance is £4037.00
CCJ for £2576.00 on 30.01.2006
CCJ for £295.00 on 13.09.2006
A lot of people have said that the defaults fall off after 6 years unless they are issued with CCJ.
None of this makes sense to me.
All I would like is to be able to have a good credit rating so I can buy a house in 2 years or so.
I don't really know what CCJ actually mean and what would happen in the future.
If I do decide to pay it all off, would let me pay in small instalments ?
If I start paying back, when will my credit rating improve ?
Thank you.
Thank you so much.0 -

It’s best to read the terms and conditions of the offer – it’s likely that it isn’t open to existing customers but you would need to check.
You could also check your credit file at the moment to see if there are any other changes that could support your application. There's no guarantee that you'll be accepted.
Hope this helps.

Hi mistalee and thanks for your question.
It’s best not to send any money until you have confirmation in writing as there is no proof that they won’t pursue you any further for the debt. If you don’t, they can still sell the debt on to another company for the remaining amount.
In terms of your credit file you would need to ask them to mark it as satisfied to show that they are happy with the settlement.
I hope this helps.

Hi KateC and thanks for your question.
You’re right that any debts without CCJs would fall off your credit file after 6 years. However, this doesn’t write the debt off and you are still liable to pay it. You can read more about CCJs on our website: http://www.cccs.co.uk/InfoCentre/EnglandandWales/Creditoraction/Courtaction/CCJ.aspx.
It’s really important that you come to an arrangement to repay these debts, especially the CCJs to prevent further action.
You can only repay the debts at a rate that you can afford so we would need to work out a realistic payment plan with you. There may even be other solutions available to you, but we would need to look at your situation in more detail to be able to determine your options.
Your credit rating will improve in time but everything that is marked remains on there for 6 years.
I’d recommend that you use our online debt advice service Debt Remedy (http://www.cccs.co.uk/ref/drcu) to help you find a solution to your debt problem quickly.
Debt Remedy will assist you in completing a financial statement with information on your household, employment, income, expenditure and debts. From this the service will automatically determine your options.
To help you fill in the form, it’s best to gather together information about:
• Your income
• Your expenditure
• The creditors you owe money to

We have just commenced our DMP with CCCS. Apart from Halifax all creditors are playing ball. We have a current account with the Halifax and since arranging DMP we have set up new bank account and stopped all DDs. I wrote to the Halifax to advise them .The thing is due to bank charges we have exceeded OD limit and they have increased charges to £5.00per day. The payment from CCCS will be approx £30per month and theerfore will not even cover charges. We have received no correspondance from the Halifax and the statement does not state anything about a payment arrangement. Therefore our debt will spirral.
What do you suggest I do next? Should I write? I understand that banks have charges etc but surley by us facing our debt and dealing with it the best way possible its unfair of them to send us further into debt.0
