  • I honestly think it will settle down - we're almost a year in and its ages since we had to deal with any unexpected phone calls etc. I'm not surprised you were a bit thrown by it, it's horrible someone ringing you out of the blue like that, especially at work. Some people on DMPs just try to keep communications via letters but I've found the phone ok - but only if I'm ringing them, with the info I need in front of me and some privacy! You need to be firm with them though, otherwise they'll take the micky!

It does get easier and, like you say, you've moved a long way forward in the past couple of months, which is brilliant.
  • Sickaschip did you find it difficult to stick to the budget. Ive only just started this month and its scary.
  • It's hard at first, I'll not lie. Part of the issue, for us, was living without credit for the first time - that was scary as anything. But, you know by probably month three we were pretty comfortable with it. It is a time of massive re-evaluation and, don't get me wrong it's not always easy, but it's really, really great to get to the end of the month and know that you've only spent what you have and not actually got into more debt. We're almost a year in and to be honest we're used to it now. The testing time would come if there was some sort of household catastrophe but CCCS seem to be pretty helpful to other DMPers who've found themselves in that position.

The first couple of months will be weird, you're re-thinking lots of behaviour, dealing with all the creditors, working with CCCS, adapting to a new budget and, worst of all, the debt does grow for a short time as the creditors put on charges etc. But, once you get through that period, for most people it settles down and just ticks along.
  • Not sure if this is the right place to ask this question. We are about to set up a DMP with CCCS but are being delayed by trying to get a basic bank account opened and waiting on some information from our accountants. Anyhow, was wondering if a DMP would prevent us (when renewal comes around) for paying for car and home insurance in installments. Like many people we pay monthly at the moment and as my insurance is due for renewal in about 6 weeks wondered if I'd have to find circa £500 up front.

    Thanks for any advice.

    Thanks Pavan.

I have had a an email from CCS stating they hadnt received my first email but my case is still open and they have received my Septembers payment, so the first payment should be paid in September.

However, Ive just received a phone call from Mercers (Barclaycard debt) at work demanding payment otherwise they will have to take further action.

I stated I couldnt speak and put the phone down - cos I can be bullied into anything, which is why i much prefer emails/letters. I have emailed them with a copy of an email from CCS saying not to pay a token payment this month because they will be making my first payment on 25th. Do you think this was the right thing to do.

    Michelle

    Hi Michelle,

Looks like you’ve already had some supportive advice from sickasachip13.

You have done the right thing as they’ll receive a payment from us like you mentioned on the 25th.

Hope everything else is going well,
    Pavan

Hi suehippo and thanks for your post.

If you’ve paid in instalments in the past this shouldn’t be a problem.

If you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to give our support team a call.

    Thanks,
    Pavan

Hi there and thanks for your post.

This shouldn’t be a problem but I’d recommend that you call us soon to go over the changes.

You may find this article about how to prepare for your review useful:

    Kind regards
    Pavan

Thanks for your reply, in between getting this reply I paniced and I stupidly did my review without declaring the changes to our expenditure and income which I now realise was silly. Will I be able to do another review declaring the new income and expenditure.
  • Sorry if this is in the wrong place wasnt sure where to post.
On Tuesday I recieved two County Court Judgement letters saying I had to pay in total 7 grand to MBNA through Reeston solicitors it didnt say how to pay or when by so I thought another letter would come with that information on. Today I recieved two letters titled Notice of Transfer of Proceedings and all they say is - This claim has been transferred to the Kings Lynn County Court for enforcement.

Does anyone know what that means?

    Thank you

    Hi again,

It’s important that you update us with your changes so I’d recommend that you give us a call to go over them. If you can afford to pay more it's likely that you'll be debt free quicker.

Just explain your situation and your counsellor will be able to update your budget.

    Kind regards,
    Pavan

Hi kaggzy1763 and thanks for your post – it is in the right place!

You’ve already been given some really useful advice by Tixy and it does sound like they’re applying for a Charging Order. This doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll lose your house but it will secure the debt against your share of the property.

Like Tixy has mentioned you may be able to ask to pay in instalments before it gets to the hearing stage.

I’d really recommend that you call our free helpline to discuss your situation so we can give you some detailed advice.

    You can call free on 0800 138 1111 and we’re open Monday to Friday 8am - 8pm.

    Kind regards,
    Pavan
