A little advice please?

I'm in a bit of muddle just now. I've been signed off my work for the last 4 weeks with anxiety disorder/eating disorders, and I'm meant to be back at work next week.
I honestly don't know if i can face it? :( I work in Bereavement services environment, and I know this sounds really awful but i dont have the strength to deal with people's grief just now, when my head is all over the place.
I just feel a little trapped in my situation. If I was to stop working, I'm not allowed to claim any benefits am i?
I'm a single parent, and have never not worked, I have always supported my son. but just now, I'm just in a bit of a mess, and don't know if financially I would be ok applying for benefits? or if I'm even entitled to any?
Sorry if this is a little garbled, but what I want to know is ...
If i tell my boss next week that I need more time off or would like to leave the company, where do I stand?
Will I be able to claim income support if I have had to leave a job due to my disorders?
Many thanks

How old is your son? If under 7 you could claim income support when you left your job and you wont recieve a sanction as you would with JSA.

karen - he's 7, going to be 8 in July so don't think this applies to me.

If you leave your job and are unable to work you can claim ESA. There will not be any sanctions.
