I've been taking things out of my ebay shop and listing them as straight forward auction items with a 99p start while I decide whether or not to keep my shop open.
I sold a book last night for 99p (it has also been hanging around on Amazon for months and the price is negligble so 99p was fine). However in my listing I made a particular note saying that it is very heavy..yet when I checked I had only charged £4.50 post and packing. Got the book out of storage and as soon as I picked it up I knew it was one of those Do'h moment, and i was right. Just cost me over £5 to post, so I made a loss overall.
Oh well, live and learn and at least it is more space in my storage area.

That's happened to me a few times too, but isn't it strange how the buyers never comment when they've been undercharged for p&p !!0

i'm dreadful at working out P&P charges, i've never charged enough yet. i think if i am to sell anymore i'm gonna have to invest in some scales but not sure if it's cost effective cos i don't have a lot to sell really.
I was undercharged for postage once on a really inexpensive item so seller must have lost out, i sent a message offering to cover the extra postage cos i felt bad for them but they politely decline the offer and said it was ok but thanks for the offer.

If you sell similar items, then working out postage price is easy. If unsure I just look at other similar items being sold on eBay.0

I sometimes use my kitchen scales for a rough idea, but most of the time I just guess at postage costs. My scales are pretty inaccurate with big heavy items. I ought to have a hunt for my hubby's fishing scales, which are in the house somewhere but we can't seem to find them. They'd be handy for things like jackets, which I could put in a carrier bag and hang on the scales rather than try to balance a big awkward package on the kitchen scales.
I usually overestimate postage costs slightly, but occasionally I underestimate and someone gets a bargain. I'll be checking properly after Royal Mail's price restructuring, though.0 -

This was a book and I usually do an 'guestimate' using kitchen scales but obviously made an error here for some reason. I can only assume I just left in a previous p and p charge as I did list several dozen books at the same time when they originally went into my ebay shop and I was getting very bored towards the end.

I did that on a bit of old motorbike I flogged, the trouble was the packing weighed more than the item. In the end I pm'ed the buyer and dropped it off myself. Lucky for me I was working in the area where the buyer lived.Nothing to see here, move along.0
