Thats right,........ also remember you can apply for ESA again after 6 months,so in theory you could stay on the benefit forever(although their is a grey area when the 6 months starts from)Child of a Fighting Race.0 -

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -

I rather thought that someone would call me a liar, and I rather expected that it would be you.Oldernotwiser wrote:People can make what claims they like on a forum; it doesn't constitute proof.

Let's hear from them.Like 7DW, I'm sure that mistakes are made and some examiners may be less efficient than others but there are many people who are happy with its working and these are the people whose voices are rarely heard.
Most people (genuine claimants included, and perhaps in particular), would actually agree with you.I'm afraid that I also agree with cutting down the numbers of people claiming these benefits as I do not believe that this country has the numbers of people who cannot work as the current figures suggest.
True ... politicians of all parties and establishment bureaucrats colluded together in an almighty scam designed to bamboozle the public. The only conspiracy I can see in this whole sorry saga is the one where people were cynically moved from claiming unemployment benefits to invalidity benefits to fiddle the unemployment figures for political gain.
Yes, it was ... let's not be afraid to use the word ... a conspiracy.
If you would drop your oppositional stance for a moment, you would find that more people agree with you than you think. We are never going to agree on this, I'm afraid."Never underestimate the mindless force of a government bureaucracyseeking to expand its power, dominion and budget"Jay Stanley, American Civil Liberties Union.0 -
How many was that out of 600 odd?seven-day-weekend wrote:IIRC, many MPs have had to pay back expenses and three are being prosecuted.I also don't consider having to have a medical as being 'put through the wringer', I think it is necessary for the DWP to check that you still fit the criteria for the Benefit.
A medical is to be expected. But the overall process is made far more unpleasant than it need be.
Just off to claim £50,000 for having my castle cleaned. I've got no reciepts mind. Paperwork? Nothing at all I'm afraid. No claim form either, you'll just have to take my word for it ..."Never underestimate the mindless force of a government bureaucracyseeking to expand its power, dominion and budget"Jay Stanley, American Civil Liberties Union.0 -

I have no idea whether you're a liar or not; you're an anonymous name on a forum.
However, I can see no point in accepting a statement like that as if it's proof of anything.0 -

And (mis) reading 33,000 thanks as posts (18,000 actually) might either indicate someone who's prepared to exaggerate for effect or someone who has a problem with reading or numbers!0 -

The main point of ESA is to fail more people, that includes at the appeal stage.
Changing descriptors to leave little room for appeal.
Also, the jobcentre have a habit of lying to many people and telling them they must claim JSA during appeal.
Those who are lied to and who do not check with the CAB or welfare rights wont know any different and will be on Jobseekers.
Not only that, with ESA many people have been getting work focused interviews ect well before they have been medically assessed, you are supposed to get the medical first to see if you are fit for these interviews. But many people are being seen in reverse so to speak.[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.
[/greenhighlight][redtitle]
The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that[/redtitle](house of lords debate, talking about Cameron)0
