Opticians questions

Does anyone know if you get a free voucher if you are on income support for the Opticians, is it for the lenses or the frames and anyone know how much you get off?

p.s do you have to have glasses with the opticians who do you test or will they still give you the voucher

thanks

At Specsavers, the voucher amount covers the full cost of the cheapest glasses - lenses and frame. I think it is about £36 for an ordinary prescription, but I have quite severe photosensitivity, so I get a higher voucher amount, as I have to have tints on the lenses. I'm due an eyetest soon, so it's probably almost two years since I have been to the opticians, but I don't think the amount will have changed a great deal.

Cheers, can you take the voucher and use it elsewhere?

If your on income support you can have a sight test anywhere providing they are a NHS registered you also get basic glasses if you want more expensive ones you just put the rest towards your glasses

    Hello there,

Yes you can get your voucher and go elsewhere. I had my recent eye test at D & A (good eye test there but expensive glasses) but collected my voucher an d got my glasses from Specsavers.

Some opticians will try and tell you you can only use it in their shop this is wrong just insist they hand it over and they will do.

P.S I'm not sure about being able yo use your voucher in a place that isn't an opticians though, I would make inquiries about that before you doing anything.
