DWP Suggest Committing Fraud

Has anybody else out there had the exeprience of the DWP telling them NOT TO DELCARE income [presmably just to make their job easier by reducing admin ]? And being treated like rubbish because you did?

I couldn't believe my ears.

Especially after such a big campaign on tv highlighting people who are committing benefit fraud ... disgusting. I can't believe our taxes have been spent in this way and that the benefit system is such a shambles.

I doubt the DWP would do this but if they did you would need to report it to a Manager.

In any case you would need to give more details for people to comment if they had experienced this.

maybe they were actually trying to be helpful ? maybe they were trying to save your time, not just their own, maybe the income in question wouldnt make the slightest difference to the benefit.
benefit system is such a shambles

agreed, but the majority of staff (as with any employer) do the best they can with the tools they have.

to be honest, im amazed there are so many benefits staff who not only spend all day trying to help others & often taking abuse, but then put in their free time helping others online. apologys for taking this off topic.

Which benefit are you on that they told you not to report your income? As said above, it may be that your particular situation didn't require the earnings to be reported.
  • Some Benefits are Contributions-based so income makes no difference and also some, like Disablity allwances, are given for the care and mobility needs for the person with the disability and again other income is not relevant.

It would only make a difference to means-tested Benefits.

I personally do not believe the DWP have told anyone not to declare income unless it is not relevant to the claim. I also find it quite unlikely that they have treated you like 'rubbish'.

Perhaps you should explain what income and which benefit, then we could answer your question??

I would say that it IS quite likely, and several of those I know, too... but I agree with your point about contribution-based benefits.
