Dell just out of warranty. screen fault

I purchased a Dell, top spec pc last year in july from Ebay, It was brand new and the guy selling them had loads of feedback and was buying them direct from Dell.
The pc arrived and a month later my warranty came from dell, i think he had to register it then transfer ownership.
Just over a week ago I noticed a line running the full screen of my monitor, The mouse arrow is above the line and so im not sure where the problem is coming from.
Anyway on discovering the fault I sent Dell, an email asking if i was covered, No reply for days, sent another email.
They suggested plugging it into another monitor, which we did and no line appeared.
Contacted Dell this morning who said the warranty ran out in june?
Surely when a warranty is about to run out the comapny advises you of this and offers you extended warranty?
Bit fed up, after trying to explain the error of their ways and almost blowing a gasket, the end reply was..........."have a wonderful day"!!!!!
Any advice on my rights would be greatly appreciated.
many thanks Kathleen

Whilst it may have been "unused" clearly the item wasnt actually brand new because dell only sell directly.
Unfortunately the 3 things combined - the item is second hand, you have bought it from an auction site and most likely from a private individual rather than a company - basically means you have no come back. All 3 on their own are exceptions to consumer rights and so adding them up makes the task of actually arguing any point next, if not, impossible. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

I dont think that you have any rights really - you bought it off ebay not through dell directly.
You could perhaps try reselling it - and state that there is the fault.Weight Loss - 102lb0 -
i think that if you complained to dell when you where in warrenty they have an obligation to fix the problem for you, as it occured when you where in warrenty.
im also having a similar dipute with dell, my laptop went faulty a month before my 3 year warrenty ran out, they changed a part but that didnt fix it. next time i contacted them to tell them the replacment didnt help they said i was out of warrenty and out of luck. now almost a year after and complaint letters and phonecalls, theve decided to change my motherboard. now my usb ports dont work, so there sending out another engineer to replace the motherboard. i asked them to stop the replacments and issue me a new laptop but to no avial.
phone up consumer direct and tell them what happened theyll advise you on what to do. the london branch number is 02087999200 and good luck with dell......your gonna need it.0 -

I don't think I've ever had any communications like that, neither from Dell nor other miscellaneous electrical companies.ezzmo wrote:Bit fed up, after trying to explain the error of their ways and almost blowing a gasket,
Not sure what the error of their ways is, to be honest.
Looks like you've had some bad luck with a screen only lasting just over a year, but I can't see that Dell are to blame. (Well they are in the sense that monitors should of course last longer than a year, but then again you didn't buy it from Dell).
As another poster has said, looks like you're going to have to take it on the chin and either pay for it to be repaired or sell as spares/repair on ebay. Not what you wanted to hear, of course.DFW Nerd 0350
