Rented Home Mold And Repair Issues

Hi And Good Afternoon to all,
Hope I have managed to post this in the correction section.

The problem is I live in a Housing Association rented flat with my 8 year old daughter who has mild asthma and despite constant phone calls to report problems Iam still at a loss to cut a long story short.

Every wall in the house has rising damp two of the walls appear to be crumbling, with 50% of them having dark mold on them, some white furry mold (like you would find on a yoghurt) on them and the house has a strong foist smell which is getting on to all clothes and furniture. The green mold has also found its way in to kitchen drawers and cupboards and on to various utensils, and to top it all off I now have an infestation of slugs in the kitchen and bathroom which despite removing them from the home every night seem to come back the next night in increased numbers.

The Housing Association know about 90% if not all of the problems yet I have waited over 2 years for them to come out and fix a outside overflow pipe from upstairs which is destroying a outside wall.

I’ve had my daughter to the doctors on a few occasions about chest complains but can only receive a general letter from the doctors on the issue, this is not enough to grant me a move out of the property as its not life threatening, So I have reached a dead end and have posted on here in the hope that someone may have had similar or be in the same boat, any help or advice would be most welcomed

Is there any thing I can do to demand a move or the work done

Thanks In Advance Guys And Girls

Contact the environmental health department of your local council. they can undertake a health and hazards/safety assessment. they can compel a landlord to attend to repairs (they can with a private landlord and they can tell you if they can do the same with a social landlord).

contact Shelter or look at their website for their tips in dealing with this matter.

make sure you keep good records of all your complaints - put them in writing and keep a copy.

go speak to your local MP or councillor - take along copies of your correspondance with the HA, plus pictures of the unrepaired defect.

Mould can be a serious health-hazard. Stop communicating with your Housing Association by text or phone calls and start writing. Keep a copy of every letter, then contact Environmental Health. Your HA has a legal obligation to maintain and repair your property, so get onto the Shelter website for guidance about how compel your HA to start taking this seriously but Environmental Health should make them sit up and take notice
