IVA and joint finances - newly weds

Hi All,

We have just got married and have received a number of cheques with Mr and Mrs as payable to. My wife has an IVA so we don't have any joint finances so to keep my credit rating clean.

My bank (Barclays) said that I could open a joint savings account in both our names which would not "link" us since we wouldn't be signing a credit agreement but would let me pay in the cheques. Forgive my cynicism but I wanted to get a second or third opinion before I go ahead and do this.

Thanks,

Ben

I appreciate that this may not be possible, but could you ask for the issuers of the cheques to re-write them in your name only?

This needn't raise any suspicion (I assume you don't want to advertise the fact that your wife has an IVA - whilst I know it is nothing to be ashamed of, I have kept mine quiet from friends and family). You can simply and truthfully say that you don't have a joint account.
