One thing in doing this thread is that it has made me determined to succeed!
How hard is it to be given the job of shopping, for me it is very hard and I think also Im going to get my best friend to come with me and help me.0/4500 -
Good luck Annie, like anything practise makes perfect. If you can get someone understanding to help you the first few times, I am sure it will get easier over time. The internet shopping can be confusing at first, but once you get the hang of it, you will probably find it easier, especially once you have your 'ususal' products saved so they are easier to find. It isn't very quick though, so don't expect it to take 5 mins. It usually takes us (both doing it together) about an hour! The advantage is that you are not inundated with special offers etc, and not tempted by the sights and smells in a supermarket.Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. my brother & my nephew are dyslexic. Me I'm just dizzy. The thing that has helped me most on the domestic front is Flylady. When I found the website I was in a breakdown and the house was wreckage after a bad experience with builders for 6 months. I can't cope with menus, cooking etc my husband does 99% of it, but I'm a good shopper and the house is now ok. Have a look at her website or the forum, you'll find you're not alone and if you only see one thing that helps you it'll be worth it. I cried and laughed when I read her stuff.

Hi Annie, sorry to hear that you're struggling. You've mentioned a Grandson, could daughter/in-law help you?
Personally I would start with a weekly menu, don't try anything too elaborate to start with. Your husband sounds really supportive, jot down what you like for all meals. Keep a notebook in your bag, so you don't end up with bits of paper that get lost, in the odd sock vaccuum,.
Once you know what you want for your meals, check the cupboards to see what ingredients you need to buy. Put that in your notebook.
Bulk cook, if you are having a casserole, stew, or similar, buy enough for at least 2 nights meals & freeze the rest. Doing it this way you can take advantage of multi pack offers in the supermarket. If you freeze a couple of things a week at week 4 you don't need to buy much for meals, so you can stock up on store cupboard ingredients.
Have a veggie meal once a week, jacket potatoes, done in the oven are lovely & pretty cheap, if you like beans, have them with some grated cheese.
A large chicken can be stretched for several meals, roast, chicken pie, pasta with a sauce, then you have the carcass to boild up for stock.
There are so many threads on this site to help with budgeting & meal planning etc. So many people to help out if and when we need it.
Good luck & keep smiling.0 -
Hi Annie
If you can get someone to help you through the job of getting your shopping done online for two or three weeks, it's a great way of having control of your spending. It saves lots of time too - once it's up and running.
One of the major problems that some people with dyslexia/dyspraxia face is organising themselves and their time/money etc. In fact, this can have a worse effect on their lives than the reading/spelling/clumsy issues.
The tips on this thread are great, though. I really hope you can get things sorted.0 -
my sis in law is dyslexic and has the most dreadful money sense, despite being one of the kindest loveliest human beings on the planet.
perhaps i should be more compassionate when she asks me for a sub till pay day AGAIN. lol0 -
Thanks for all the replys. Dyspraxia and the inability to get organised or stay organised does take over your life and it becomes a vicious circle. Im clever enough to have all the good ideas, meal planning, menus, batch cooking, online shopping but carrying any of this out is totally exhausting.
Someone has explained a bit more about Tesco online to me and how it works so when I have put Caleb in nursery im going to try again....:)
Ill let you know how i get on!!
By the way Ive apparently been moved to another board but cant find me!0/4500
