450GB dissapeared off external hard drive

I have a 500GB external hard drive which i formatted it to become FAT32 using HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool so it would work on my PS3. I did a full format and it did not say there were any problems. But when i see it in My Computer it says 31.9GB free of 31.9GB.

I'm assuming its partitioned the hard drive and I cannot use the remaining space.

I have found the remaining 450GB and it is labelled unallocated space. It says I can send this up as a new volume, but I cant figure out how to resize it so both are the same drive with the same letter

Windows XP (not sure about Vista or 7) cannot create a partition greater than 32GB using the FAT32 file system - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314463

They suggest using a DOS boot disk if you have to create a large FAT32 partition. I'm not sure if that would recognise a USB hard drive. If not then possibly Gparted would be worth a try (its a mini linux on a live CD especially for partion creation and resizing).
