Our road was affected by traffic lights(whilst eon were working on lines, non essential ) causing a tail back and in doing so caused a loss of business, can claims for business loss be made on the leccy co?

I assume by non essential they mean that it wasn't urgent.

However the work had to be done at some point. I'm sure they weren't digging up the road for the fun of it and to cause you disruption. If they didn't do anything, and the infrastructure got into such poor state you kept having blackouts, you'd lose a whole lot more business!

It was rolling replacement of 3 phase wiring, Actually we would not lose any business due to the state of the wiring, we only lose any when vehicles are blocked from coming in due to traffic jams.

Sorry if we caused you inconvenience Peter.

However, as Money_Grabber rightly says, the work will have been necessary to ensure continuity and safety of supply.

As such, we will not accept any claims for loss of business.

Your local authority can insist that the lights are controlled manually if the tail backs are worse in one direction than the other, especially if it is work over a period of days. Manual intervention should mean the delays are evened out.

I found this out when I complained to my local councillor when temporary lights, where a new road was being built, and tail backs were causing problems
  • If the lines fell down unexpectedly due to their poor condition, your business may have been affected for longer. Probably best they update the wiring when required.
