Osborne - an asset or a really big no-no?

Yes, the Labour dirty tricks smear campaign seems to be in full force this time around. I was thinking specifically of the times Labour have done something the conservatives were advocating, and instead of saying well-done for coming around to their way of thinking, they attack them for stealing their ideas.
Indeed they do and that is where they lose some credibility because they cannot have it both ways.
Alistair Darling played a blinder on it in the Chancellors debate when George Osborne whined about the stamp duty change in the budget being a stolen Tory policy. Darling simply said it was a case of working together and smiled smugly at Osborne. Class :rotfl:"There's no such thing as Macra. Macra do not exist."
"I could play all day in my Green Cathedral".
"The Centuries that divide me shall be undone."
"A dream? Really, Doctor. You'll be consulting the entrails of a sheep next. "0 -
I have this wierd idea that most Tories come across far more normal than most Tories (are supposed to come across). If you know what I mean...it's all about prejudices and stereotyping...
Here's how nice and normal Tory activists are according to the Daily Mirror.
'A rising Tory star has quit David Cameron’s party over outrageous anti-Northern racism. An email leaked to the Mirror reveals that Adele Douglas, 19, was humiliated because of her Mancunian accent.
The director of Conservative Future was “laughed at” for having attended a state school and “bullied” for working in the public sector.
Ms Douglas said she knows of Conservative prospective parliamentary candidates who are racist and sexist behind closed doors – adding “a Tory PPC called me a P***-shagger when I was seeing a man of Asian origin”.
Her email also said: “I encountered what I would describe as institutional prejudice. I was constantly referred to as ‘the Northern one’.
“The job I was given was to be responsible for ‘the North’. Often at events Conservative Future members would find it appropriate to greet me by mocking my (very mild) Mancunian accent.
“On one occasion, one person who I had never met who recognised me from my work on the Conservative Future exec asked me a question.
“When I answered they responded with ‘oh, you’re Northern’ and walked off.”
Her email added: “I was told my parents’ professions (local government and HM Prison Service) were ‘very working class’ and ‘how did I cope with that?’”
The only time she spoke at a party conference was because sneaky Tory chiefs wanted the public to hear a “young Northern girl”.'0 -

Sorry, but this is almost certainly rubbish. If there were any truth to it, I'd imagine they wouldn't have described this woman as The Director of Conservative Future, a position that doesn't exist.
Although, I don't see any problem with being responsible for 'the North' - I work closely with someone who is responsible for 'the South West', who doesn't go around bleating about it.0 -
It's difficult to understand why the very words 'Daily Mirror' don't provoke exactly the same contempt as 'Daily Mail'.
In fact, in terms of the idiotic partiality of its schoolboy journalism, the Mirror is one of the worst in the land.0 -

Another 'sorry, but', dear Nick.
Sorry, but this has altogether the ring of inconvenient truth to it.
I have some experience of Tory Party activism and am all too well aware of the contempt with which they speak of those whom they consider to be the unworthies of this world. It was what turned me away from voting Tory permanently. This includes anyone who:
* has a non-white skin
* works in the state sector
* lives in anything but 'owner occupation'
* has a modest income
* does not pay automatic respect to 'tradition'
* belongs to any faith other than protestant
* believes in any but the most basic of collective provision
Behind closed doors I have heard the most deprecating and, frankly, vile terms of abuse used quite systematically and casually in all of these respects - the language of the self-appointed elite referring to those they deem as somehow a lesser type of human whose only duty should be to doff caps towards their betters.
Believe me, if you belong to any of the above categories, they will smile at you in your doorway but then have distinctly different thoughts as they walk away.
Tories speak with forked tongue, as Tonto would have put it.0 -
My pet rant currently is dissing Gideon Osbourne - a huge liability.0

Point one, Emmanuel-Jones?
I did think about ticking them off but I know someone else will. But, frankly its baloney . As a non Owner occupier, not a protestant and married to someone not a christian, and the daughter of a man who is working class and worked much of his life in public sector.0 -
Imagine politicians you see as 17c naval captains.
Now imagine which would make nice fair minded captains and which would 'keel haul' at the drop of a hat.
The tories and UKIP always come out worst in this little test I do - especially John Redwood and Nigel Farage - 'have the man flogged and make it one to remember Mr bosun'!0 -

When I lived up North - not too long back, my local tory MP was black, lived in a normal workers yorkshire terrace, sent his kids to a normal state school, and went to church every sunday.
How do I know? Lived about 5 doors away.0
