Parking ticket for parking in own parking bay!

Hi All

I'm writing this in the hope that some one can help me.

Basically, I currently rent a flat which includes an underground parking bay. A letter was recently sent round saying permits should be stuck to the windscreen of you car.

We rarely drive the car and always clearly display our permit and so was shocked when I received a Parking ticket for "permit on dash" as the reason.

The signs in the car park say "permits must be displayed", they do not mention that they should be stuck to the windscreen. (As a new user I can not upload a photo of the sign as yet, happy to upload one when I can).

We have emailed the company appealing the ticket, since we believe it is unfair to ticket us for parking in a parking bay we have paid for.

They responded saying that they will not cancel the ticket and for us to "not look for every reason not to pay a ticket".

We are not looking for every reason not to pay the ticket we just feel that given we have already paid for the parking bay through our rent and have clearly displayed the permit (as the ticket mentions) we can not understand how they can try and charge us again through a parking ticket.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

You don't have to look for any reason... just don't pay it! It's not a valid parking ticket, more like a begger asking for money.

Don't contact them again & ignore all future letters but keep them safe, including the original ticket.

They will give up after a while... the chances of them taking further action are nil.

They are unlikely to go to court, but if they do, you have one of the strongest cases I have seen in a long time.
They say you should display your permit - you did. You parked in a bay belonging to you - no one elses. Its a very easy court win - not that it will end up in court. Just totally ignore all correspondence from them.

Could you tell us who the parking company are, so we can name and shame them.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?
  • Hi Pixikles, Don't forget to take a photo of the sign which said you had to display the ticket.

It was on display, end of story. There is no court in the land that would enforce this nonsense, even if it got to court, which it never will. It's not even enforcible.

    Seconded Trisontana request.
