Problems with neighbours home and housing officer!!!.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask about this, but here goes anyway.

A neighbour who had always attracted trouble, 3 months or so ago there window put through. The next week they pretty much moved out and has not been staying in the house since. Except they do go back to collect there posts etc. Last week they moved more things out when we thought they did it all near 3 month ago. Last night another window gets smashed.

There is always this same car that slowly goes up and down the street turns round paying attention to the house that's empty then drives off.

A few of us are rather scared about this. The "problem" house has a neighbour living next door to it who has a disabled child and she is worried sick as is at least 3 other families near the "problem" home with children. It's making us feel like we are almost living in fear in case they think we are watching or spotted every time this car passes by etc and it will be our homes next.

Now as said the person moved out near 3 months ago and only ever goes back to collect post. There housing was called last night and the window boarded up. We was told this morning that the entire house would be boarded up as there was nobody living there.

Another neighbour had there housing officer come out to discuss the issue. They have now said they cant board the house up because the former resident still has the key. The housing officer knew about the previous tennents situation and knows they don't live there any more. The officer said as long as the tennent\former tennent still has the key there is nothing they can or will do.

When asked if that part of the street were expected to live in fear therefor the officer replied "pretty much so as there is nothing we can do".

Any advice as I find the housing officers lack of interest and attitude disgusting?.

If the tenets still has legally access to the property ie has been paying the rent or not been legally evicted then there right your naf all they can do. Until what I presume is a house association kicks them out there not a lot you can do.

Social housing have there hand tied a lot more than private landlords do unfortunately.

Seems the back of the house has also has the windows smashed so we have learned. If that's correct then there is now only 2 windows that have not been touched. Are we expected to wait untill a pertol bomb or something gets chucked at the house and the neighbouring homes get effected that way before the "we wont do anything because they still have the key" point is invalid.

I'd assume there is a policy that states for most local housing if they don't spend any nights there for a certain period then there tenency is void?. Also if there is no furnature in the house like we and the housing seem to know then it's clear they have no intention of living there. So even IF the rent is getting payed then how can they be allowed to keep a tenency for somewere they clearly no longer have any intention of living in again?.

Have you not considered calling the police? Not 999, use the non-emergency number. Vandalism is a criminal activity, so you wouldn't be wasting their time. Also - give them information regarding the car, the registration, make and model.
