Mini-Veg. What can I grow?
Dont have any space for a veg plot but picked up a couple those black trays which the large chains give away free and was wondering what I could grow in them.
Can anyone tell me if you can grow mini-veg in these please?
They seem quite deep and was thinking of planting individual seeds into those. Is this practical and if so what can be recommended to grow.
Would like to grow spring cabbage, caulis that sort of thing.
Any help much appreciated :j

Davidscot - I would forget Cabbage and Cauli's if you only have a small growing area, they grow to be huge and are not the easiest things to grow. Mine got attacked by Caterpillars and were inedible.
Last year I grew Runner Beans (Hestia Variety), Mange Tout and Dwarf French Beans, these can all be grown in pots or small areas. Spring Onions and Cut and Come again Lettuce grow well in shallow tubs.
If you like Aubergine... Try Aubergine Baby Belle, much smaller than normal.
Or Peas... The Tom Thumb Variety are the mini variety
Carrots - Parmex Variety are small and round, rather than long & thin
Leek - Armor variety are baby leeks (Pencil thin)

Hi Davidscot, can you hang a hanging basket anywhere? you could grow cherry tomatoes or strawberries in baskets really easily0

Lots of different herbs could be grown - chives, basil, mint etc along with salad leaves.
Fresh mint from the garden is so good and the garlic chives are very tasty if you are into something with that flavour!0
