There's an interesting article in the Times today about over-sixties being advised to take probiotics "to boost their declining levels of “good” bacteria and protect them against intestinal infections including hospital superbugs."
Also, apparently some microbiologists have argued that:"about half of the probiotics available were inaccurately labelled and did not do what they claimed, while some were found to contain unhealthy pathogens. Most of the serious offenders were sold over the internet and from unorthodox health food shops. The warning did not apply to mainstream brands used by the majority of people, such as those made by Danone [produces Actimel], Yakult and Nestlé and sold as supermarkets own brands. "

There was a discussion on Radio 2 on Tuesday this week about probiotics which included "expert opinion". Tune into...Chris Evans...OK OK OK!!! I know he's not everyone's chosen presenter. But if you want to hear the discussion it's available via https://www.bbc.co.uk, and it was in the first hour or so.0

Can't drink Kefir if it has even the tinniest amount of alcohol in it - my work has zero tollerance - we can't even have a couple the night before just incase of a random test! Didn't read the thread fully though and will have another look later. Cheers for all the commentsTim0

The Lidl probiotic drinks are 89p for 4 and very good, they seem to have helped with my IBS too. I buy them every week now.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

Hmm, I like the taste of these drinks and get them from asda 6 for one english pound, the muller vitality ones. I too was under the impression that they may be "good" for you, however, my consultant says they do nowt, for me anyway, I do have quite severe digestive problems-my bowels dont work. He is under the impression that taking these so called pro-biotics will do more harm than good... suppose only time will tell, but if it makes you happy, why not....RIP Floyd - 19/04/09. I know i'll see you again my best friend forever.

The other problem with these drinks is the fact that they have artificial sweetners in them. My DD is intolerant of Aspartame and it's scary how many "GOOD FOR YOU" youghurts and yoghurt drinks have it in them. I've only found 1 that doesn't have it in.
I stick to natural yoghurt with fruit added and them blended with some more milk to make yoghurt drinks.0 -
