I bang my head with outsourced call centres - is it just me???

Options
Just phoned Nokia Customer care (re: Ovi Store errors) and my head hurts after banging it against the wall as they had no clue what I was on about!!!!!!

Headaches in the past from Tiscali, (TalkTalk) Bt, Bt Broadband, Prudential.

Why bother to have call centres that have no idea what you are saying??????

Your question has to fit in with one of the options on the script in front of them.

What is on the script is anyone's guess, try rewording the question.

The company I used to work for had a call centre abroad. They eventually brought it back to the UK due to the amount of complaints received from customers.

Plus the time delay we had with looking into their queries. It seemed silly phoning India with a complaint which would be dealt with in the UK 8 hours later and then emailed back to India - seemed a bit daft!

They had no customer info to hand as under the DPA we were not allowed to send them the customer files so it would all be dealt with in the UK anyway! Think my company eventually found out that it was a false economy in the long run and moved the call centre back to the UK.

Its a beauty when after going round in circles for 20 minutes because neither of you can understand what is being said you finally have to give in and say "Can i please speak to someone who speaks English" And in the broadest Indian accent imaginable they reply "I spek werry good English, who can i help you"

A famous motor insurance company uses call centres from abroad, various countries.

Firstly I got through to an automated machine, then an indian call centre, then a canadian call centre and finally back to the uk.

I soiled myself in joy though when the insurance quote for three cars was lower than one car insured by the company who does not use gocompare! Anyway Gocompare is the biggest waste of time and resources ever.

I feel sorry for the guy whos antics are shown every four minutes countrywide. I bet his children get bullied and his wife has had a sex change to rid herself of him. Poor fella -fat, stupid and desperate for money .....go compare son,

I phoned for a car insurance quote and got through to someone in Scotland. I couldn't understand much of what was being said. Not always Indian call centres you need to worry about.

On another occasion, I joined Virgin Media and was given a £20 discount as part of the package. However, instead of deducting £20 from my bill, they added it on.

So phoned customer support and got through to someone in the UK (northern accent). After 10 mins, I managed to get through to her that the £20 had been added on and not deducted so she removed it from the bill. BUT she did not deduct it from the bill, she simply removed the £20 deduction alltogether so I had not received my promised £20 off my first bill.

Half hour later she still did not grasp the simple concept of how she had wrongly removed the £20 deduction. In the end, I managed to get a manager who spotted the problem right away and I got my £20 deduction.

So the moral of the story is, it doesn't matter where you are put through to, you can still have a numpty or someone you can not understand.

    Which insurance?

All the Halifax call centres are in the UK as far as i am aware.

I worked in the Home Insurance one in Yorkshire and there is another in Nottingham.

Other centres are in Ireland and Sheffield.

    I detest foreign call centres!

We have mobile contracts with 3 and i hate them with a vengeance!!!!!
    (c) Broke in Yorkshire. ( there are worse places ) :D

Those that matter don't mind and those that mind don't matter!

I know what you mean. I phoned a company in England recently for car parts. If I knew another firm that could have supplied the parts, I would have hung up. Even giving information phonetically and slowly didnt help.
Called to cancel Sky 2 days ago. Spoke to someone who's 12 miles away, enjoyed a bit of banter, cancelled it then off the phone.
What I try to do is allow for the fact they may have as much bother understanding me as I have understanding them.
