One off share buy

Hi folks im new here. I want to buy £1000. Worth of shares in a company. I want to leave them for about a year. Whats the best way to do that? Thanks

    My simple advice is, do not do what you are planning if you hope to make any money.

    If you want to lose money of course, fill your boots.

    £500 in UU (570p) and £500 in BAY (242p)
    Be back in 1 year.

    + dividends

    I make it about 8% return after trading costs. Not bad.
