rather odd that i got the following text, a few minutes after calling hospital regarding a referral for eye test.. though they say not done by them, and i tend to beleive them..

(the number in subject comes up blank on google.. do i get a googlewhack prize??)

'FREEMSG- our records indicate you may be entitled to 3750 pounds for the accident you had (i havent had any!)..

'to claim for free reply with YES to this message. top opt out text STOP'

already registered with the TOPS- have sent query to ASAm though not sure if they cover this type of thing..

who else should i report this to?
Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..

The fact that it came after a call to a hospital is almost certainly just coincidence.

I started getting these texts with that format (i.e. starting FREEMSG-) and received maybe half a dozen over a month or so. I'm fairly sure that they just pick numbers at random, hoping for the chance that someone who happens to have had an accident recently will call them and they will make money out of the claim.

I make a point of never sending STOP to these. Firstly I object to having to pay to send a text to stop something I didn't ask for, and secondly every text that they send to me costs them money and time, making (in theory, at least) their spamming business less profitable.

I don't think there's anyone effective to report it to - it's not within PhonepayPlus' remit, and Ofcom is to big and self-important itself to be bothered with something that affects mere ordinary customers.

I cut my finger opening a tin of Spam. These guys seem like the ones to call for the "compensation I deserve"

If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
