What???? Housing Association want money for providing info to our buyer!

    £117 sounds like a bargain to me! I've just dealt with a leasehold sale and the fee charged by the managing agents was about £450.00.

    Basically you have to pay to get the information because your buyer (and their mortgagee) won't proceed without the information. And their solicitor would be negligent to proceed without it.

    You have to pay because you are the one asking the managing agent for the information.
  • When we bought our freehold house in December, our sellers had to get the management company to confirm that there were no arrears (not just from the people we were buying from but from all previous owners), to provide copies of accounts and also to provide estimates for works needed in future. The sellers really dragged their heels over it (probably for the same reasons as OP) and I begged our solicitor to let us exchange without the information. He refused. Our maintenance charge is £38 a year.

    For reference, as the buyers we had to pay £85 plus VAT for a notice of transfer and a new share certificate.

    Annoying undoubtedly but £100 + VAT is not really that excessive for answering a legal request for info. Unfortunately in the litigious environment we all live in that means someone has to be paid to provide information that is relied on and so the costs escalate.

    As others have posted providing the info is sent vioa you (your solicitor) you won't have to pay it again and you just need to accept it as part of having bought a cheaper ex HA house.
