Cancellation and Deposits

I signed a contract for a Window company for UPVC windows and would now like to cancel the contract. In the T&C it says I have 7 days to cancel in writing which I am going to do but i also paid a cash deposit of £100 and I am not sure where I stand with that. Obviously I want it back but it doesn't say anything about deposits.

Does anyone have an idea about this?

Your rights vary on how and where the contract was signed. Did you sign it in your home after being cold called, or did you solicit them to provide a quote?
  • They called me and offered someone to come out and give a quote and the contract was signed in my home.

Get your cancellation in now and ask for the return of the deposit. Keep a copy. Don't delay while you think about your £100.

  • Thanks both. How would I ask for the deposit back?

"Please give me my deposit back" would be worth a go.

"Please return my deposit" is equally polite and uses fewer words. Write these words in your cancellation letter.
