I have a recipe from a pastry packet to make French Onion tart.
It is supposed to have sherry vinegar in it but Asda didn't have any today. What could I use instead?
It also should have Gruyere cheese but this isn't veggie. Asdas emmental is veggie, is it a similar style of cheese?
Thanks,

Use whatever vinegar you have, although a wine or cider vinegar is preferable to malt- balsamic would be good.If you don't have any vinegar your next best bet is a squirt of lemon juice.
Emmenthal will be a very good alternative to gruyere;)0 -
Thanks for the advice, I will use balsamic vinegar. I bought some once I started to use the OS boards, I now love the stuff, I don't know what I did without it.Nevermind the dog, beware of the kids!0
