New home being built back to front

We are buying a new house off plan, the house is in a row of 4 and we are buying the one on the left end. Upto last weekend the brick work had been completed for the ground floor. We went down today and they have now put in the woodwork for the cealing for the downstairs and floor for upstairs.

The problem is the space for the stairs that has been left is on the wrong side of the house (the other 3 houses in the row are also back to front). According to the plans the stairs should run up the inside wall but the space has been left against the outside wall. This would mean the bathroom being against an adjoining wall and the bathroom would not have a window in it.

We went into the sales office and told the sales woman and she said she would tell the site manager tomorrow. She later rang up and asked if the house has been built back to front would we want to swap our plot for the one on the right end of the 4.

I'm going to call them tomorrow afternoon but would like some advice, legally can we stand our ground and make them put the house right?
