Well you are a clever bunch
It is indeed the clutch.
The bad news is that its going to cost between £250 - £300 for the supply and fit. I suppose that is about right based on what rev henry said above.
Also I was debating getting shut of the beast and getting a new car, but now I take everything into account its the first time a 'major' component has gone on the vehicle so I am going to give it the benefit of the doubt and get this fixed then keep hold of it until the next major breakdown
Thank you so much for your help, it was very much appreciated0 -

A new car is going to cost more than £250 - £300, so get it fixed and keep driving it."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
Mr Clutch will do a 1.2 petrol for just under £200, might be worth giving them a ring (stockport or manchester) or finding someone similar local0

Thanks for letting us know the outcome.
This isn't 'a major breakdown' it is regular wear and tear.;) The type of driving you do is likely to cause a lot of clutch wear for the mileage travelled.:o0 -
Fixed yesterday. Cost £284.35 (inc VAT).
Break down was £98 for the clutch and 3 hrs labour (Labour was £48 an hour!) plus Vat
Feels like im driving a new car. I even got it cleaned by the local hand wash place.
Hopefully I will notice a difference in the amount of fuel that the vehicle is consuming now (or would that be something else)0 -

Glad it's fixed.
You should see an improvement in the fuel consumption.:T0
