there is some money in there - 2000 that I woudl like to retrieve.

so far talking to santander via phone- they state there records do not go back that far and they have no record of the account etc as a result.

I am going to go into a branch and see if they can do anything differenr- but has anyone else been so stupid as to mislay money etc and try to find it once the original group has been taken over???

  • You could check and see if they set you up with a TOISA (Tessa Only ISA). It was a special type of ISA that the government made available to anyone that had an "Obsolete" Tessa Account.

well it has taken over 8 months for them to state that
    1. on the maturity date- ie 5 years ot the day of opening all the funds of the account were transfered into an account begining with K , the account type being ref to as an ISS K06. in 1996

Well they have looked at there records and this is there reply:
I have received a copy of the microfiche for K accounts and incidentally the account is missing from the fiche. This would suggest that the account was closed prior to 2001 as we only have information on K savings accounts from 2001 till present. I have spoken to the the records team and they have informed me that it is impossible to obtain information regarding a K account prior to 2001. I have also referred the matter to our FOS Team who have responded by informing me that we do not have any information on savings accounts prior to 2001. We are obliged to keep information regarding older Tessa accounts by HMRC however data on other accounts is normally removed after 6 years. Santander are not required to keep data for more then 6 years and therefore I am sorry to inform you that I can not help you any further. I can inform you that you can contact the Financial Ombudsman regarding your complaint and you can also contact the British Banking Association to see if you can obtain any assistance. Well due to there late response I had already filled out the British Banking association website form ( notably the telephone assistance for this was second to none)- I ticked all banks and buildong societies...they have all come back with nothing ( this was to cover incase the K account was with another provider).

I am going to complete a complaints form to the FO- due to the length of time it has taken for them to deal with my complaint, but also I really would like to find the money.

Any other advice? ANYONE WORKING FOR ABBEY NATIONAL IN 1996 IN THE TESSA DEPT OUT THERE WHO CAN SHED A LIGHT ?;)

Hi viz, did you make any progress on this?

I ask because I am also attempting to trace money in a K account held by santander.
