Purchasing a holiday lodge

Hi, we are in the initial stages as looking at a holiday lodge to buy in the West Country.
There seems to be plenty for sale but we were wondering if anybody on this site has been through the procedure of purchasing one already and can point out the pitfalls.
Also, does anybody know if these places actually increase in value at all?

Thanks.

What do you mean by a lodge?

This thread starts off about caravans, but then goes on to include log cabins and other "holiday" homes. The consensus seems to be that they lose money over a period of time.

Thank you for your reply! By a lodge I mean one of those wooden ones that you see on holiday parks. I haven't ever stayed in one, so I'm not very good at describing them, sorry.

Did you look at the thread though, as there was a lot of discussion from people who had stayed at them and others who had looked into buying them, but decided not to go ahead.

Hi. Yes I did look at the thread and thank you for recommending it. However, there appears to be just one view that the lodges do not increase in value and of course this may be the absolute truth, so no one has disputed it. There was also a lot of great info on planning permission etc but not really the info I was after.
It would be great to have lots of opinions or independant advice. I know I won't get this from estate agents. Call me sceptical!
    Hope you can help again!

Gosh, I am so sorry and very silly. I only read the 1st page. I didn't realise that there was 4 pages. I will keep reading. Apologies again.

Well I have had a good look at that thread now and you were right DFC, it has some very good info about lodges and purchasing of them. I may have to rethink the whole thing.
Fitzy, thank you too. I have contacted the Scarborough building society and hopefully they may be able to give me some good advice. Will let you know.
