Countertop sink

Apologies for what might be a stupid question but I have to replace my bathroom sink, following a accident that involved my daughter, the curtain rail and a candle holder which culminated in a massive hole in the basin.

As I have to replace the work surface as well, I was thinking about buying one of those sinks that looks like it's sitting on top of the work surface (a bit like this: http://www.victoriaplumb.com/Bathroom-Suites/Basins/Counter-Top-Basins/Kavos-Counter-Top-Basin_669.html

My question is - what attaches the basin to the work surface? I've had a look at a few and I can't see how to attach it as they only seem to be attached by the waste to the u-bend -which doesn't look very secure to me. Am I'm being stupid or is there a trick to this that I just haven't seen?
Don't judge people on they way they look, the way they speak or what they're called because they can't help that.

Only judge people on what they say and what they do.
