To old for a paper round?

Im looking to earn a little extra money that I can put towards taking my kids out at the weekends etc

When I was a teen I used to deliver a local free paper once a week, back then I ususally earnt about £10/£12 each week depending on number of leaflets and wouldnt mind doing this again

However ive never seen an adult doing this job! Do you think my age would go against me? (im 26)

Our "paper boy" is 47, he has delievered our papers for 10 years or more. So i cant see a problem.

I have a relative who runs a peper shop. He prefers to employ adults because he finds them more reliable than some of the kids he has employed.
  • A middle-aged man used to deliver our paper. I've seen all ages of people do it. Go for it. Good luck.

I work for a local newspaper group and our weekly free paper distributors range in age from 13 to 84!

So go and apply - they'll not bat an eyelid about your age!

    Good luck.

I agree with all previous posters! Our paper "boy" is in his mid 30s and adverts in my local paper for delivery people state any age welcome.

My friends twins deliver the local free paper but only get paid roughly £6 a week including leaflets. Might be my area or wages have gone down dramatically!

Agree. I was a supervisor at one point and part of my job was to hire 'delivery agents' as they were called. :D

I'd have employed a 26yr old no problem. Go for it. Keeps you fit as well. :)

I did 600 newspapers every thursday from 13 with around 200 papers and finished when 18. However the company ended around 2 years go- like alot of other free weekly local newspapers.

By the end I was getting about £8 an hour, but that was only because i ran lot and very efficent in my rounds :D However expect to get alot lower when you start off. I remember my first round taking 3h.5rs+ but after 5 years I could do that round in 1.5hrs:D

However its bloody hard work and I was glad to move on to being a lifeguard!

Remember that you have to deliver in all weathers, even snow!!
"No likey no need to hit thanks button!":p
However its always nice to be thanked if you feel mine and other people's posts here offer great advice:D So hit the button if you likey:rotfl:

I certainly wouldnt let my age handicap me if I were you.

BUT....I have a feeling I've seen a thread somewhere on here recently that mentioned the current "going rate" for this....from which....it would not surprise me if that type of work has had a (huge) paycut since you last did it - ie still pays very much the same level as you had all those years ago - despite the inflation in the cost of living since.

I would expect myself that I would be looking to at least £30 per week for this exact same type of work now - but I have a feeling that the cost of living rises since then simply havent happened - or, at best, been minimal = huge paycut since you were doing it last:(:(. Hope I'm wrong on this - but I bet I'm not...

That's an astonishing number. Here, the delivery areas are split into manageable smaller rounds. Was that one round you had or did you do several?
