Hey,

I owned a Vito 07 plate a couple of years, and outside my house in the middle of the night thiefs came and stole the black strip panel along the bottom of the van along with the plastic casing of the rear view mirrors. They also stole my hub caps. I reported to the local police station but nothing occured.

I recently bought the new Vito van and now exactly the same someone has come outside my house in the middle of the night and stole the black strip lanel along the bottom of the van - here is a pic of a similar model with the panel at the bottom - http://images.autoexposure.co.uk/AETA27929/AETV47374239_1.jpg

Why on earth would someone want this?

Simple- the part is probably overly expensive for what it is- it is easily damaged in that location on a van and it is cheaper to get it that way than honestly.

My Mum back in the early 90s had a Metro, where indicators were common to both it and a number of Rovers and people used to steal the front indicator lenses. They were £40 a pop at that time too!

The mirror casings are prone to damage from being whacked on other vehicles, foilage and street furniture. Same with the side mouldings. So it's cheaper for someone to nick them rather than pay for the parts.

I used to have a Cavalier SRi in the good old days... one of these

The little hub cap protecting the wheel nuts were FOREVER going walkabout (the rest of the wheel was ally)..

There was an accepted "owners club agreement" that we could take someone else's when ours got pilfered.
Nick someone else's for a week, until they got nicked again, start the cycle again.

I'd install 24hr CCTV, can be very cheap these days. Even one of those dummy cameras with a warning sign would probably stop it happening.

    Been there!!!
I had an Opel Ascona SR (1983 Y reg) and mine went missing a couple of times. I can honestly say I never stole any to replace mine.
I wasn't in any owner's clubs and wasn't aware such an agreement existed!!
