Need cheap storage for over summer

We have just started looking into storing my son's uni belongings over the summer. It seems that it will be around 150 pounds for 4 months with yellow box in colchester which is a bit expensive for him - any ideas on how to cut these costs?

How much does he have to store?

I don't think that's too bad actually for 4 months - my son's going to have to do this as it costs £200 each way to transport him and all his stuff to Uni (we don't have a car so had to hire a people carrier/airport taxi to take him up last Sept). Can he not get together with other students and share a unit, surely others will need/want to do this as well?

Does the uni not offer anything? I know mine does for a small charge but I can't remember if it restricted to just International Students.

There's quite often specialist companies offering storage to students - alternatively if he's not got anything of much value he could see if any of his mates who are staying over the summer or live with their parents in the town could lend a shed/garage.
We have the house all year round, so we've lent out our shed to friends to keep their stuff in over the summer (normally kitchen equipment and chairs etc) in the past.
