i'm starting a window cleaning business and need a van like renault traffic, vauxhall vivaro or similar. when i've been looking i've found so many different options and need some advice on the best way to do it. contract hire, lease purchase, lease hire, buy outright etc. whats best? any help appreciated. i have enough cash to buy one for up to 10k but will i be better leasing so they are responsible if anything goes wrong its really confusing. also are there any benefits to eco leasing?

Sorry to jump on your thread Toby, but you don't seem to have had any replies?
My husband and I are starting up a new business on a very tight budget but will be needing a reliable van. We haven't had much luck with vehicles in the past and they have always ended up costing us a fortune.
Not sure whether to buy a cheap one, but could end up costing a lot again, spend more money on a 2nd hand one, but you still don't know what could be wrong with it?
Don't know anything about lease hire/contract hire etc. Would be nice to know if anything went wrong with it someone else would have to fix it. Is that the case with contract vehicles? Also, which is the best long term option and where would we stand finance wise.
Sorry, there's a lot of questions there, but if anyone has any experience of small businesses running company vehicles, I would really appreciate some advice too?

From a start up business perspective I would personally be reluctant to spend a lot of capital on buying a van when I could spread the payment over say 2 years and have spare cash to spend on marketing.

I am not an expert on van leasing but have found an article which talks about the advantages and disadvantages of leasing a van. Go to compare-van-hire.co.uk and in the Rental Guide section there is an article called Van Contract Hire.

I am sure, given the current market conditions that you will have the upper hand for negotiating a favourable deal.

I hope that's of some help.

  • Hi, I'm in the same situation and was hoping one of you could tell me what you did and how you got on and whether you had any advice for me?

    All the best!

PS:Have read the above article, but was hoping for some first hand experience? Cheers
