Car dealer credit card fee

My car dealer wants to charge me 3% for using a credit card to pay for my car. He never informed me of any fees before entering the contract, and I never enquired about them.
As far as I am aware, the seller has to inform the customers of any transaction fees before entering into the contract.
Is this right? Where do I stand?

Oh god!
It annoys me when naive people get into these type of traps.
It is also your fault, you should have asked him about 'hidden fees'.
It takes 2 to tango.
I feel like wacking you with the steering wheel! lol...people are just too naive! No Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30 -
what does the contract say about payment by CC?0

It doesn't mention anything0

Must admit, I would expect to pay a fee for using a credit card. If he didn't charge I would be asking for additional discount and paying by another method. It will cost the dealer anything from 2% to 5% depending on card. Why not try paying £100.00 by credit card to get the protection.0

Well there's your answer. Is the dealer a mindreader ? Did they know you wanted to pay by card ? Did you ask if you could ? The dealer is quite within their right to refuse to accept a card as form of payment if they so wish or pass on the merchant fee !0 -

The earnest is not on me to ask about the fees - it is down to the seller to tell me about them.0 -

No, but that is the thing. This is the reason why stores will always have a notice up stating credit card fees. If the store says they accept credit cards, they must say there is a fee if there is one - before you entered the contract.

And he has... just as soon as you declared that you would like to pay by credit card.0
