Painting the Ceiling Magnolia?

Can someone help settle a "difference in tastes"...
We are repainting the bedrooms which all have picture rails about 3/4 way up the wall. The picture rails are white at the moment.
Above the picture rails, and the ceiling I wanted to paint matt white as that is what I am used to painting ceilings. However my wife wants magnolia. I think that magnolia will look unclean on a ceiling.
Has anyone painted magnolia on a ceiling, and if so what was the result? Is magnolia a common colour to paint on a ceiling, as where I come from in New Zealand, 99.99% of celings are white!

Chacun à son goût. I'd have them white, but who's to say I'm right?
Painting them cream might look like you're heavy smokers."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0 -
I have painted a whole room magnolia ,no picture rail and did skirting a different colour .My livingroom has a picture rail ,white ceiling and the bit above the picture rail ,
the rest is lemon .
What colour are you painting the walls ."Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many"0 -
White will make the room look brighter. I wouldnt do magnolia ceilings in my place."It's official, MSE's harbouring total fruitcakes">^..^<0

we painted all our ceilings magnolia ( modern house no picture rails ) I think they look like a smoker lives there and we are in the process of repainting them all white.enjoy every day, you dont know how long youve got!:o0

I painted my staircase ceiling in magnolia as i done the walls because i couldnt be bothered trying to get a neat edge with the white,i thaught it looked alright.0

I painted a high ceiling magnolia only because the walls were a chocolate and cookie colour and white would have looked a bit stark and the room floods with natural light so it looks alot lighter.
However, I agree with those who say it could end up looking like you are heavy smokers. High ceilings - yes, low ceilings - no.0 -
As you have picture rails, you should paint differently above and below the railsHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

Definately go for white. As stated, magnolia on the ceiling will look dirty IMO.

Go with the magnolia, white is so stark and cold.;)0

Can't you compromise? Magnolia is peachy and brilliant white can look grey in winter, there are plenty of other off whites that won't look nicotine stained.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0
