So, tree fern was incredibly well wrapped-up over the winter...had a look today and all last years fronds are brown and dead. No seeing any green curls from the centre either - too early or has the cold killed it?

We've lost quite a few plants this winter, that have survived previous winters very well.
Possibly too early for a tree fern, but the sustained very cold weather this winter may well have killed it off - with the number of consecutive sub-zero days, it could well have frozen all the way through, however well wrapped it was.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
It could be too early to tell. I stuff the middle of my tree fern with straw in the winter, just to give it a bit more protection. Give it a good water with rain water in the middle where the curls start from, it may nudge it into action.I get paid to smell great :j0

Didn't wrap mine, but don't usually get snow/frost in London.
End of leaves are a bit brown, just had a rummage in the centre and I can feel small bumps but thats all, can't see them, only feel them, so I wouldn't give up yet.;)0 -
See if you can feel any knuckles in the crown. Water it well in the crown over the next few weeks and feed with seaweed solution or similar. Dont give up on it yet, it may still come back.0

Yay! Three new fronds are starting to uncurl. The winter didn't kill it! (shame about the agave americana, which did expire)0
