Am I a sucker!!

the wife and I have Just brought a vw golf privately knowing that it had personal contract plan on it from vw, we rung the vw dealer and he said he would almost guarantee that it would be ok and the owner would pay the the outstanding debt, having delt with the owner and buying the car I have been left felling abit of a sucker as once money were exchanged her demeanour changed and has left me feeling doubtful about her integrity! If the person does not pay the outstanding debt what will happen!!where do I stand?

If the debt isn't cleared, then the lender may be able to snatch back the car, leaving you to chase the vendor through the civil courts for your money back.

    In a word....YES.
  • The VW dealer is right in that the seller is probably completely honest and will now use the sale proceeds to pay it off.

You probably should have insisted on making this payment yourself then the excess to him but you havent and simply need to wait and see.

I would ensure you have a legal car etc and that you know where the seller lives and such in case it does go wrong.

In hindsight I agree,vw told me the had a very good history and knew the owner which was enough to make me think things would be ok but just feeling abit unsure thanks for advice.
